In Loving Memory of Yengusnesh Wolde Abegaze
October 3rd, 1946 – April 16th, 2025
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for her life, we announce the passing of our beloved
mother, Yengusnesh (“Emaye”) Abegaze, who departed this world on April 16, 2025 — a date
that holds profound meaning, as it marks the anniversary of her own mother’s passing almost
30 years prior.
Emaye was born from her parents, Menbere Tsegye and Abegaze Wolde in Gonder, Ethiopia.
As a young adult, she moved to Addis Ababa, where she worked as a home economics teacher
at Tesfa Kokeb Elementary School for nearly 30 years — reflecting her dedication to service of
others even in youth. In 1989, she immigrated to the United States, where she spent decades
devoted to helping raise her 12 grandchildren born in the U.S. with warmth, devotion, and
unconditional love.
Emaye was a woman of unwavering faith. Her relationship with God was central to her life, and
through her, we learned the power of prayer and steadfast faith in the face of life’s biggest
challenges.
As the proud mother of eight children and the grandmother to 17, she was the heartbeat of our
homes and the matriarch of our family. To us, she was more than a mother — she was a guiding
light, a stable presence, and our greatest teacher. Her love was a gift that we will carry with us
always.
Though our hearts ache in her absence, we are comforted in knowing she is now at peace,
reunited with her beloved mother and father, and resting in God’s eternal embrace. Her legacy
of love, faith, and dedication lives on in every one of us.
She is survived by her siblings, Nigist Kassa Abegze, and Negash Abegaze, her children
Yenework Bogale, Ribca Mersha, Konjit Mersha, Rahel Mersha, Fergenent Abate, Seble Abate,
Mekedes Abate and Yared Abate, and her grandchildren Samuel Tsegye, Abnet Tsegye,
Bethlehem Tsegye, Liya Tsegye, Mikael Tsegye, Atesede Makonnen, Eden Tadesse, Matthews
Eframe, Helena Yared, Menna Teffera, Robell Eframe, Leah Teffera, Aday Teffera, Bezza Yared,
Seblework Alemu, Christian Eframe, and Lucas Eframe.
She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and always remembered.

back and take you to be with me so that you also may be where I am.”
