Ione Barakis Stavron lived a life marked by strength, elegance, and an unmistakable presence that left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Born on May 16, 1942, in Fort Worth, Texas, she was the beloved daughter of Gus Barakis, Sr. and Stella Barakis. Throughout her life she remained deeply connected to the city she called home, building friendships and community wherever she went.
Ione carried herself with natural grace and confidence. She possessed a strong spirit and independent mind, qualities that defined the way she lived and the way she cared for those around her. Her sense of style, hospitality, and appreciation for life’s finer details made every gathering brighter and every conversation memorable.
Those who knew Ione remember her warmth, her determination, and the lively personality that filled every room she entered. Over the years she developed a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, many of whom became like extended family through the community she built around her life and work.
Ione cherished her son, Constantine Stavron, whose presence in her life brought her great love and joy. She was also blessed with the companionship of her dear and loving partner, George Alexandridis, whose friendship and devotion brought her comfort, joy, and many cherished moments in recent years. Through her years as a restaurant owner and through her beloved business, Hot Damn, Tamales!, Ione built a wide circle of friends and loyal patrons who became like extended family. She took great joy in sharing her food and hospitality with the community, and many who visited her business returned not only for the tamales, but for the warmth of her personality and the lively conversations she loved.
Her faith was central to her life, and she remained a devoted parishioner of the Greek Orthodox Church, faithfully attending services and participating in the cherished Greek festivals and gatherings of the community in Fort Worth, Euless, and Dallas. She also had a deep love for Greek culture, especially its music and traditional cooking, and took great joy in preparing and sharing Greek dishes with family and friends. Her church and faith community were a meaningful source of friendship, fellowship, and spiritual connection throughout her life.
She is survived by her son, Constantine Stavron, her dear companion George Alexandridis, and a wide circle of relatives, friends, parishioners, and members of the community whose lives she touched.
Though her passing leaves a profound absence, the memory of her character, spirit, and love will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
May her memory be eternal.
