Emma A. Gomez of Brooklyn, New York went peacefully in the morning hours of August 25, 2025 surrounded by family and friends in Fort Worth, Texas. She was 91.
Emma was born to Narciso Rodriguez and Dolores Surillo on June 13, 1934 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. Emma’s life was defined by true grit and devotion to her family and career. She left Puerto Rico for New York City at the age of 18 with little in her pocket but with a suitcase full of goals. Beginning her professional journey in the print shop at 26 Federal Plaza in New York City, she worked her way up to become a respected Building Manager Specialist. While working full time and raising a family, she put herself through night school and proudly earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Labor Studies from Empire State College. Known for her candor and high standards, Emma’s staff respected her strong leadership and unwavering integrity.Outside of work, Emma found joy in sewing, gardening, and lively games of dominoes and Chinese checkers. Her favorite flowers—gardenias and peonies—reflected her own blend of grace and vibrant spirit.Emma was the proud mother of Emmaline G. Vampran and mother-in-law to Aaron J. Vampran, and the cherished grandmother of Gavin S. Vampran. She is also survived by two beloved sisters, Margaret Rodriguez of Easley, South Carolina, and Benedicta Rodriguez of Fort Worth, Texas.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fernando Medina Jr.; her son Pedro “Pete” Gomez, Jr.; and her siblings Nicolas Rodriguez, Juanitia Morgan, Rosa Roman, Maria Vega, Eduardo Rodriguez, Carmen Schipano, and Sylvia Rodriguez.Emma’s warmth, perseverance, and love will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Bristol Park of Eagle Mountain on September 25, 2025 from 1pm – 3pm. Burial to take place on October 17, 2025 at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York at 10am
