Darius Hill “Skip” Hollomon IV was born in Norfolk, Virginia on April 8, 1947 to Darius Hill Hollomon III and Alice Newsom Hollomon. Skip entered the gates of heaven on September 2, 2023, in Mansfield, TX following a years-long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
A lifelong golfer (especially with his brother Jimmy and his friend Rick), avid handyman, and lover of Natty Light beer, diet coke, chocolate ice cream, and Snickers bars, Skip made friends wherever he went – he never knew a stranger. Skip was a gentle soul with a dry sense of humor and a loving heart. Skip retired from USAA in 2004, and made Carova Beach, NC his home. Skip was active in the volunteer fire department in Carova Beach, loved the beach life, and the friends he and Melinda made there became family.
Skip was a devoted husband and best friend to his wife, Melinda Farmer of Mansfield, TX; a loving father to his daughter Marie Blanks and son-in-law Chip of Richmond, VA; a doting grandfather to his granddaughters Sydney Blanks of Richmond, VA and Audrey Hinton of Clovis, NM; an older brother to Sarah Christian (Bill) of Charleston, SC and Jimmy Hollomon (Kathy) of Norfolk, VA; and a loving godfather to Matt Hollomon (Megan). Skip also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws, as well as a host of friends who were family. Skip is also survived by four amazing carers who, along with his loving sister-in-law Brenda, helped his wife Melinda made sure he had the best quality of life possible during his last years. His carers loved him to no end, and made him and Melinda family – Maricel Mallory, Evelyn Cantu, Jay Arista, and Rose Ngohba.
